Itching

Tamasopo, SLP, Mexico

Tamasopa is a dinky town in San Luis Potosí that lies within sneezing distance of various waterfalls, caves, and general prettiness. Inside the town itself are a couple of hotels, and inside one of them is a restaurant where I spent two days itching and working on my computer.

Straight from my journal:

I'm pretty fucking miserable. Physically. I'm not too depressed. But these 100 bed bug bites are more itchy today than they were yesterday. According to the internet this could take 3 weeks to clear up. Assuming none hitched a ride with me. But, it's not dangerous. Just really uncomfortable. I'm also not amped to go swimming with people and have them see all the bed bug bites.

I forgot to mention that yesterday ---- texted me out of the blue around 7am. I'm guessing she was drunk/hungover. One of her friends committed suicide. We had a good light-hearted chat about bed bugs, dogs, and monkeys. When it turned serious she peaced out.

...

I just got gently kicked off a bus in Tamasopa - there's some problem with my internet bus ticket. Apparently people don't do that here. Looks like a software problem to me.

I'm feeling a little less itchy today (still itchy though). I don't think any bed bugs have made the trip with me. But when I took out my journal on the bus I saw a reddish-brown bug on it and I got all paranoid and emptied everything out and checked it with a flashlight again.

Nothing. The bug I saw was moving a lot slower than the bugs on the bed in San Luis.

Spent some time futzing around with AWS to get rolling on thistroll.com yesterday. I made good progress. I'm most of the way to getting the dev ops side of setting up a static site (just need domain forwarding thistroll.com -> www.thistroll.com). Next I could either build out the static site or do dev ops work to deploy a tomcat instance on AWS or setup a DB.

The lady in the bus depot has been on the phone for like 20 minutes about my ticket. It's a $5 ticket.

I did leave the hotel for a few hours to walk down to a waterfall the locals used as a community pool. I stayed out of the water, ashamed of my bed bug bites. Probably not the best way to experience Tamasopo.
