Lake Atítlan, Guatemala

Katie and I had started seeing eachother in Minneapolis a few weeks before I left. We knew our relationship had an expiration date, so it never got too serious. Mostly we ate out, enjoyed the outdoors together, and had a lot of sex.

After I left town we continued chatting over the messaging technologies of the day. She was more fluent in Snapchat, I in puns. Via this medium I convinced her to come travel Guatemala with me.

Over the course of two weeks in Guatemala with Katie we ate out a bunch, enjoyed the outdoors together, and had a lot of sex. Which was pretty fun, but difficult for me to make entertaining in a blog. I could do three blogs of erotica, but besides being a deviation in voice from my other blogs, I think I would probably suck at writing porn.

So instead I'll just fire off a few quickies about our two weeks in Guatemala. First stop - the small village of Santa Cruz on Lake Atítlan.

We stayed 3 nights at Lake Atítlan, and 2 of the 3 nights we were in bed by 10pm. The other night we stayed up at the hostel bar and drank our limit.

Katie became quiet and introspective. She stared into the bonfire and maybe saw visions there.

I hung out with a couple music scene folks from New York City and was really talkative. We probably discussed beer or something equally profound.

On this night we did not have a bunch of crazy sex. Katie passed out peacefully. I stayed up and watched the entire movie of A Few Good Men, occasionally returning to the hostel bar to buy more beers.

I have a text document on my desktop called "top 40.txt" where I keep a ranked list of my favorite 40 films. I've been doing this for like 20 years. At the time Katie arrived in Guatemala I had been rewatching these movies and learning that many of them now bored me.

Diminishing returns is a principle that I fear applies not only to capital investments but also to romances and repeated viewings of classic films.

I am happy to report that A Few Good Men still entertains me.
