More Of The Same

The Yankees swept the Twins out the playoffs again. What else is new?
The last time the Yankees knocked the Twins out of the playoffs I was wine drunk in a Nicaraguan hotel. So I guess a lot is new for me and the Twins since then.
I moved back to Minneapolis after a year abroad and watched some Twins games at Target Field. I also got a job at Target and was treated to performances by Sean Mendez and Dave Matthews during Target's annual corporate rally at the Target Center. I didn't even vomit. Almost.
I was living downtown and getting my groceries from Target too. Well, most of them. 20% employee discount on produce, you know.
The Twins meanwhile were hitting bombas at a historic rate and surprising everybody. They hired a pitching coach who'd never coached in the majors and suddenly all our pitchers could strike guys out with 95 MPH fastballs.
I say "our" Twins, but I no longer live in Minneapolis. Now I'm just from there.
I moved out to Seattle a few months back to work with the big data bros of Amazon. My job at Target had me bored. I was expecting a challenge at Amazon.
Amazon is different in many ways, which some day I'll write about. In many ways though it's more of the same.
Likewise the surprising Twins ended their season in predictable fashion. Crushed by the Yankees again. That's 16 consecutive postseason losses and 13 consecutive postseason losses to the Yankees.
This year I watched the season end at Billy's on Broadway and ended up blackout drunk complaining about my job to some other random Amazonion. We are legion.
There's a decent chance that a year from now I'll be drunk at a bar complaining about my job after another Twins playoff loss to the Yankees. I guess we'll have to see if I last that long at Amazon.
